Bethany Beach, DE

Vegan food in Bethany Beach… is still leaning on the scarce side as this little beach town definitely holds tradition and old fashioned charm close to its heart. I will be honest with you, I don’t come here for the vegan food. I come for the memories, gorgeous beach environment, adorable boardwalk, and peace of mind that this beach has given me for years of my life. This is actually the beach that my family has vacationed at since I was a little girl. It holds a VERY special place in my heart, despite its lack of vegan food! But do not fret!! There are still options to get you by! I have laid them all out here for you so you can easily find food on your next vegan vacation!

Places to Eat

As I mentioned, there are not a lot but there’s still more than enough to enjoy on your visit. I still highly recommend taking a visit here. The beach is truly beautiful and it is still very clean and quaint when compared with more popular and modern beaches. So here is what I recommend!

Food Food

The Penguin

If you are looking for a legit vegan breakfast come here! They only have a couple vegan options but they are actually quite good!! I got the Veggie MMMM Melt with a side of vegan sausage! It was really delicious and you can always lure me in with some vegan sausage.

Heidaway

I did not have the chance to try this spot but it does seem to have a couple nice vegan lunch and dinner options! They have a veggie pasta and a veggie burger with some options for sides. Again, not hugely diverse but still a great place to find a solid meal that is very close to the beach.

Beach Break Bakrie

Here I got to enjoy a delicious hummus wrap! The pita was soft and scrumptious and the veggies were fresh. A nice light and refreshing lunch while on a hot beach!

Beach Break

3 Blonde Bakers

This was my FAVORITE option!! They cater more to breakfast and brunch but you can definitely find something to eat here. They have a limited but yummy variety of vegan bakery options along with fantastic acai bowls, smoothies, coffees, and bagels! They even have vegan butter… I really liked their scones and matcha lates with oat milk.

3BB

Snacks and Bakery

Maureens

MMMMMMMM I LOVE Maureens!! You will too if you love a good vegan milkshake! They have 3 vegan ice cream flavors here and they are super creamy and very delicious! I got the cookies and cream milkshake….and went back for another!

Maureens

Turtle Cafe

Turtle beach cafe is a great place to stop for coffee, smoothies, or a light salad. Not a ton of options but it is right on the beach for when you need something quick and refreshing!

Salt Provisions

Ok…this mayyy seem random but it is not! Actually, if you like Kombucha this is the right place for you! This shop sells some great local soaps and other small items but you can also find locally sourced Kombucha AND some vegan iced coffees! So I would still recommend making a stop here for a refreshing drink! It’s hot, you’re gunna need it.

FRIES

Let’s be honest, you’re at the beach…so enjoy the food!! You can find delicious and crispy boardwalk fries everywhere here!! The ultimate vegan savior. I recommend putting some vinegar on them, it is quite delicious.

Grocery Shopping – It’s Going to Be Your Friend

I highly recommend doing a little grocery shopping and meal prepping while you are in Bethany. This is not a bad thing! It always saves me money AND you can find great vegan snacks and meals this way!

Giant

This is the chain we used and I found a bounty of vegan snacks and mini meals here! For example, I found amazing mac and cheese (in the shape of cute fish!), microwave curries, granola, vegan fruit roll-ups, amazing produce, delicious vegan chicken, and more!

To see what EXACTLY I bought, and what meals I prepped with all my ingredients, check out my Instagram!

If you want some guidance on what to make, check out my ebook!

Other Tips/Things to Do

This is truly a beautiful area, I am sure you will enjoy it while you are there! Don’t be afraid of the limited vegan options, it is truly SO easy to make easy and healthy meals in your cute beach house :). And there are still plenty of options to get by on when you don’t feel like cooking!

While you are here you should definitely try these things:

  1. Mini Golf
  2. Shopping at all the CUTE stores along the boardwalk
  3. Check out Made By Hand fair trade shop, its just right down the road
  4. See the SUNRISE! It is so worth it
  5. Walk along the beach in the moonlight! Super romantic or relaxing
  6. Check out Bethany Band Stand for some live music
  7. Visit Fenwick Island
  8. LOUNGE! Enjoy the sun my friends…..or sometimes the gorgeous storm clouds over the ocean

This place holds a LARGE piece of my heart….and if you give it the chance I think it will steal a piece of yours too. So, let me know what you think when you go! And let me know if you find any other vegan food in Bethany Beach!

Sausage Pizza and Wet Burrito – The Grain Cafe, Long Beach

Welcome to the ultimate food guide that will show you all the greatest vegan food spots in Los Angeles! I have been living in the Los Angeles area for 6 months and before I depart to go to my next destination (I wonder where this will be??) I wanted to share all my LA vegan food knowledge with you! This guide contains tips on where to find the best vegan burgers, shakes, pizza, smoothies, groceries and more! So read on to discover the endlessly delicious vegan food possibilities of Los Angeles :).

There are 3 major locations of the LA area for which I will describe the veggie delights they contain. These are Los Angeles, Long Beach, and Bellflower/Cerritos areas. After describing my top finds in each of these areas I will list my overall favorites, the most affordable finds, and the places that offer the most variety. At the very end I will list and describe the best places for affordable and speciality vegan-friendly groceries. So let’s get started!

Great Vegan Food in the City of Los Angeles

Let me begin by stating that this blog post was written in January of 2021 so if one of my recommendations has moved locations, closed, changed owners, or has changed for any other reason I apologize!

All of the vegan food in Los Angeles area that I have tried has been truly amazing and I am sure there is much much more to discover! Below is a list of all of my finds which were equally delicious for different reasons!

Chicken Basket – Doomie’s Cauliflower Pizza – Sage Bistro

Doomie’s Home Cookin’

This is definitely the crispiest and creamiest restaurant option from this list! The classic fried chicken basket is honestly to die for! You get a chicken breast, a chicken drumstick, a cup of vegan mac and cheese, and french fries! It is all perfectly delicious and completely vegan! The breading is extraordinarily crunchy and light on the chicken and the fries and vegan mac are just as noteworthy. You can also try their famous fried Oreos which are delightful! My partner also tried the classic cheeseburger with animal fries and the philly cheesesteak which were also delicious!

After getting your fill at Doomie’s head on over to Cocobella Creamery, a vegan ice cream shop that is just next door!

Sage Vegan Bistro

This restaurant offers one of the most diverse vegan menus! They have pizzas, ravioli, salads, sandwiches, burritos, donuts, cheesecakes, and more! One of my favorite options off the menu was their buffalo cauliflower pizza which has a pesto sauce that is loaded with arugula and buffalo cauliflower! Their pizzas also can be made gluten-free which is great! They have many desserts but my go-to was their chocolate muffins! This muffin is giant, rich, and sweet!

Halloween and Fall Donuts – Donut Friend

A Few Other Extremely Delicious Options

Donut Friend and Creamo Ice Cream have been two of my most visited spots in LA because they are so darn delicious! I don’t know what these vegan treats are made out of but their donuts are some of the best I have ever tasted and their ice cream tastes exactly like creamy traditional ice cream! During the holidays I tried Creamo’s “gingerbraid” ice cream flavor which was exquisite and I highly recommend trying if they bring it back next year!

On the way to get your vegan donuts don’t forget to make a stop at the nearby Bohemian House of Espresso and Chai. The owner of this coffee shop is delightful and he makes extremely fresh coffees and teas that you are sure to love! The iced dirty chai and hot date coffee are two of my top choices on that menu!

The final spot I want to note is Monty’s Good Burger! This is a 100% plant-based burger shop that shares a vibe with the famous In-N-Out Burger. They have amazing burgers, fries, sauces, and milkshakes! I can 100% recommend :).

Great Vegan Food in Long Beach

Long Beach, a close neighbor to the city of Los Angles is filled to the brim with amazing vegan options! Let’s see what it has to offer…

Dragon Roll – The Grain Cafe Waffle Deluxe – The Grain Cafe

The Grain Cafe

This spot has so much variety, is completely vegan, and is one of the most affordable options! Similar to Sage Bistro they offer everything from pizzas to waffles! They have amazing appetizer options like the dragon roll displayed above and many others. The waffles that you see pictured, among many other options, are gluten free which is an awesome bonus. They also have amazing coffee choices, my favorite being their iced coffee with soy creamer. It sounds simple but it is honestly one of the best coffees I have ever had.

Smoothie Bowls – Natura Bowls

Natura Bowls

This is the most refreshing, raw, and one of the most affordable choices! Natura Bowls is a smoothie and bowl shop that uses fresh fruit and has amazing vegan base options like Spirulina, Chia, and more! You can build your own bowl and put on as many fresh fruit toppings as you like in addition to other toppings like cacao, coconut flakes, and chia seeds. I LOVE this place and would absolutely recommend!

A Few Others to Note…

The Hippea is another one of my favorites! This shop makes everything around chickpeas! For example, in their amazing “community box” you get 20 falafels, french fries, salad, 4 pitas, and hummus! They also make chickpea cookies and other fun desserts! This is another very affordable option, especially if you get one of their group meals and split the cost among friends 🙂 .

The Veggie Grill is yet another great option that offers some variety! They have salads, burgers, yummy sandwiches and more! My partner and I have tried the Masala Curry Bowl which is a mix of squash, cauliflower, and chickpea curry over rice and the super creamy bowl of mac and cheese!

Finally, I definitely wanted to mention the Long Beach Sunday Marina Market where you don’t only find fresh and seasonal produce but some vegan treats! Devis Donuts are all vegan donuts that taste exactly like traditional donuts! They are light, airy and full of flavor! You can also find amazing vegan coffee at the Moon Mountain Coffee Stand. My partner and I have tried the date coffee, vegan caramel coffee, and the coconut coffee; all of them are truly amazing and delicious!

A Vegan Spot to Note Near Bellflower and Lakewood

Last but not least, I wanted to make note of one of my local spots (also close to LA)! This just so happens to be in my favorites list so if you’re near by these areas it is worth a drive!

Pizza USA

Vegan pizza, pastas, and appetizers OH MY! I found this place by accident and have fallen in LOVE with some of their vegan options. My recommendation to you is to order their vegan garlic knots, buffalo cauliflower, and vegan lasagna…you won’t regret it! I have never been a huge fan of lasagna but oh my goodness this one has flipped the tables! Their garlic knots are a great addition to any meal and the buffalo cauliflower are the best I have had! As far as pizza goes their BBQ Vegan Chicken is my favorite!

Masala and Vegan Mac – Veggie Grill, Long Beach

Vegan Groceries in Los Angeles Area

To provide you with all the information you need concerning the vegan food in Los Angeles I must also help you with grocery shopping! This list will provide you with some tips on how to shop for affordable and specialty vegan groceries in the LA area :). As a fan of meal prepping I have a done a lot of grocery shopping here with a lot of trial and error at the beginning! For two people to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner for 4-5 days out of the week we spend on average $120 on groceries each week. Since there are two of us we split the cost and really end up paying next to nothing (in my opinion) for a week filled with healthy and fulfilling meals (and snacks too)!

So let’s take a look at some tips 🙂

Food for Less

You can usually get the majority of your vegan groceries at this affordable grocery store!

What is guaranteed:

  1. Nut Milks (We usually get Silk Original Almond Milk)
  2. Canned Foods (Corn, beans, crushed tomatoes, chickpeas, etc.)
  3. Your Produce (You can find most of your fruits and veggies here)
  4. Frozen Veggies
  5. Rice/Quinoa
  6. Decent Bread (They actually sell the amazing Dave’s Bread)

An example of a whole meal you can make just by shopping here is my Yummy and Nutritious Vegan Nachos! However, whatever you don’t find here you can get for a relatively good price at Walmart or Target!

Walmart/Target

These stores have some great vegan “specialty” foods and other vegan staples that you may not be able to find at Food For Less 🙂 .

Vegan Snacks – Walmart Buffalo Cauliflower and Daiya Vegan Mac – Walmart

Foods You Can Find at Walmart:

Foods You can Find at Target:

And last but not least…if you are looking for something VERY specific that is vegan or want to treat yourself I recommend Sprouts Farmers Market or the Long Beach Marina Market on Sundays!

Sprouts/Long Beach Sunday Market

These places (especially the market) are great for finding very fresh and seasonal produce and speciality vegan and gluten free items.

Here are some examples of food you can find here:

Veggie Pizza – The Grain Cafe, Long Beach

Well, I believe I have now taught you everything I know about the vegan food in Los Angeles area! From restaurants and treats to grocery shopping I think it’s all covered! I really hope that this helped and that you got to experience some amazing vegan food in Los Angeles!

Thank you for reading and for all of your support!!! If you have any questions, comments, or new recommendations for vegan food in Los Angeles feel free to leave a comment below!

Vegan Chicago… Chicago has become a “must visit” city in the US for vegan food! Of course there is much more to enjoy here as well like top notch museums, a poppin music scene, beautiful lake Michigan, and more! I was actually quite surprised by the amount of vegan food here. Why, I am not sure, but I can promise you that you won’t go hungry in Chicago!!

Chicago – A Vegan’s Paradise

As many of you may already know, my partner and I travel around the world via housesitting! A great way to save money while traveling, take care of adorable pets, have an entire home to yourself, AND you get to feel like a local! If you haven’t tried this yet I recommend. This particular house sit was located in Lincoln Park which was truly an IDEAL location! We rode city bikes almost everywhere! You can use these bikes to get around easily, enjoy some exercise, and you only need the LYFT app to do it!

We found a large density of vegan food between Lakeview (slightly north of Lincoln Park) and Millennium Park (where you can see the infamous “bean”). This is one of the best and safest areas of Chicago so I would definitely try to stay around here! We found everything we needed here and more! Donuts, smoothie bars, raw vegan food, asian food, pizza, burgers, great grocery stores…the list goes ON AND ON!

The Restaurants

There were way too many to choose from in the short time that we were there….but I think we definitely found some of the best!! Let’s start with my all time favorite.

Stand Up Burgers

Stand up burgers has some of the best vegan junk food you will ever find! They have a classic menu consisting of ALL VEGAN shakes, burgers, chicken sandwiches, fries, and tots! My go-to order was the spicy chicken sandwich with tots and a chocolate milkshake! So good. They are also in a prime location, very close to an active and energetic part of the city. While you’re here, you should check out GoGrocer! A fantastic little grocery store across the street where you can find some great vegan snacks.

Stand Up Burger

The Chicago Diner

Yet another PRIME location to indulge in some vegan deliciousness! They have a mostly vegan menu with some vegetarian options. Most of the vegetarian options can also be made vegan. We had the seitan wings as an appetizer…and they were DELICIOUS but they could be a meal on their own!! Super filling. I had the pierogi quesadilla as my entree which may sound crazy but it was quite delicious! Their milkshakes are also fantastic. I would recommend this spot as a top option for your visit.

Handlebar

We stopped here on our way to the Chicago House of Blues, which was the perfect idea! They have more of a limited vegan menu compared to the other two options BUT there is still plenty to choose from. I really loved my sesame noodles which is a special served for dinner every day. They also have a fried vegan chicken patty sandwich, cauliflower wings (certain days), Vegan chili macaroni and cheese, grilled cheese, and more! I tried the vegan dream mac as a side, and it was amazing!!

Handlebar

Uptons Breakroom and Liberation Donuts

An AMAZING STOP for sure! Especially if you love donuts as much as I do! Here you can enjoy a lighter lunch featuring some of Upton’s meat replacement classics. If you are not familiar, Upton makes everything seitan! They have sandwiches, soup, hot dogs, and more! You can find a variety of ALL VEGAN donuts here that taste delightful. Also, you can order soft served vegan ice cream which is a rarity.

Upton’s Breakroom

Beacon Donuts

UHHHHHH. These donuts are amazing and again, ALL VEGAN! Such a cute and colorful donut shop a little off a main road. Such a wonderful place to stop on the weekend. Usually, I don’t like filled donuts, but I tried one here and loved it! They are all good. If you don’t stop here you are missing out for sure.

Beacon Donuts

Others We Missed

There are of course some other spots we didn’t get the chance to go to. So here is a short list of some other great recommendations!

Chicago Raw

Urban Vegan

Athleta – Commonly known as a clothing brand, but they have the most AMAZING looking restaurant!

Truly, there are too many to list but these would be my top 3 next places to try out!

Grocery

There are a ton of resources to find vegan groceries in Chicago! We got all ours from Jewel Osco. Actually, this was our first time visiting this chain, but we loved it! They had loads of great vegan meat alternatives, ice creams, snacks, fresh fruits, and more!

You can also check out Whole Foods and Trader Joes!

If you want to see what groceries we bought, and what meals we prepped during our visit check out my Instagram!

Tips on Things To Do

We spent 1 week in Chicago and packed in A LOT between sit seeing, food blogging, working, and house sitting the fur babies. Here is what I would recommend.

  1. The Chicago Bean – A must see when you are a tourist
  2. The Art Institute of Chicago
  3. The Museum of Science and Industry – Even if your’e not a kid, it is still really fun!
  4. Checking out Lake Michigan beaches/boating/beach volleyball
  5. Going to the Chicago House of Blues to enjoy live music in a beautiful venue
  6. Bike around the city using Lyft – A great way to see a lot in a short amount of time!
  7. Try as much vegan food as you can! Of course…

House of Blues

Well my friends, that is all for VEGAN CHICAGO! But I would say it is quite a lot! Let me know when you go and what you check out. Even better, I hope you discover something NEW!

If you are looking for some simple meals to cook and help save money when you are away, check out my 15-Minute Meals E-book. I use many of these recipes on the road!
